Here is my Review of the book & a brief summary
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, has been a very interesting read for me. Reading this book, I have begun to enjoy literature a lot more. The book begins with letters written by a sailor named Robert Walton, who is sending them to his sister to inform her of his journey to the americas going north instead of the regular route that is south. He then encounters a man on a glacier with a dog sled and is able to rescue him and bring him aboard and then gets a whole story from this man, who is Victor Frankenstein, as to why he is there. He begins by explaining that he was chasing after a monster/ man and that is why he got so far up north. Then the book skips ahead to explain Victors life and how he got interested into science. Which he really had a niche for the studies of natural philosophy but his father disagreed so he didn't study exactly what he wanted until he reached the years of college where he began to continue his previous sciences that lead him to wanting to create life from the undead. After creating the monster he became ill and his family became worried and wanted him home. During the time of being ill, Victor received from home, news that his youngest brother was murdered and that his somewhat family member was being blamed for it. He immediately began to get a feeling of guilt thinking the worst since he had abandoned his creation. He then thinks that his creature had done the crime and when he arrives home he becomes so stressed he goes on a hike. There he then sees his creation on top of the mountain and it is heading toward Victor. From that point on, as the reader, you get a look at what the monster has been up to. From communicating with a family who has begun to accept him to discovering what foods he likes and doesn't like. As well in his journey he describes what he did that was so bad and that was that he had murdered William, Victor's younger brother out of spite for being left to fend for himself. Then it goes back to the encounter between Victor and his creation and how his creation would like a woman or wife of his own to love but Victor does not want to make another monster. After that happens Victor finds himself in worse problems, his friend Henry Clerval needs him in London but on the way Victor gets stopped in Ireland and finds the body of Clerval with choke marks on its neck. Victor is accused of the killing but it is a false hope. Victor then goes back toward Geneva with his father now at his side and he is planning his marriage to Elizabeth when he gets a visit from the creation the second to last time. This time he says that the next time the monster will be present is on his wedding night. Yet Victor doesn't think too much of this at the time, that wedding would be the worst. His new bride would be murdered out of revenge to make Victor suffer like he has been suffering because the monster was abandoned. Yet in the eventual end, Victor ends up killing himself after sharing this story of his voyage and jumps out the boats window and back into the ice to freeze to death.
My ReviewI would give this book a B rating with about 3 out of 5 stars because the plot was very well thought out but it lost my interest in some parts especially with the reputation of deaths and the state of Victor really got things a little unclear to me but this book was very well written. Mary Shelley did a good job executing the scenes of creation as well as the references to her own life through the monsters feelings. I also enjoyed the fact that certain aspects of Victor represented characteristics of those from Shakespearean literature such as Hamlet with the whole suicide scenarios.
